Bio

Medina Sod is an original rock band based in Boston. The band has drawn comparisons from Pink Floyd and Neil Young, to Steely Dan, and Porno for Pyros etc…. But not one of these bands can encompass what Medina Sod really possesses. Medina Sod is consistently developing new material to keep their audience guessing what the band will do next. Medina Sod came to fruition in the fall of 2001 as a jam among friends who were involved in other bands. It was destiny calling when a passer-by mistook them for a Pink Floyd cover band and asked them to open for his Sabbath cover band.

Since the band did not have any original material at the time they decided to perform the Pink Floyd “Animals” album note for note. In practicing for that performance, a great synergy developed between the members, with the overwhelming response from the audience they decided to stay together as a group and to develop original material. As original songs were being written, Medina Sod continued to book more shows, mixing their unique songs in with a wide variety of covers, until the sets consisted of more originals then covers. Along the way, the fan-base grew as more people had an opportunity to hear Sod; first opening for other bands, then performing regional and benefit shows, and eventually headlining weekends at local clubs with each show unique and different from the next.

On January 3, 2004 Medina Sod celebrated the release of their self-titled EP to a packed house at the Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge, MA. Following the CD release the band continued to expand their fan base by playing shows and with the help of radio airplay throughout New England and New York. In August of 2004 Medina Sod was one of headliners for a sold out Lebowski Fest in NYC at the Knitting Factory, and in October of 2004 the band was selected to play at the NEMO Boston Music Showcase. Medina Sod released their second studio album entitled “Trace Back the Lines” February 27, 2007.

As we are settling into 2011 Medina Sod will unleash a new 6 track release in June of 2011 entitled “Good, How Are You?” which will again showcase their unique songwriting ability and chopsmanship.
